Are you interested in sailing? Have you always wanted to give it a whirl to see if it was right for you? Join the Cooking Lake Sail Club for this basic introduction to sailing. This short session will introduce you the the basic concepts of sailing including the biggie: "No motor at all? How do you get back?!" We'll teach you some of the core fundamentals of harnessing the wind and how to make your way from A to B. You'll join a club member out on the water where you will take the ropes and put your new skills to work.

When you return to shore we're pretty confident that you'll know if sailing is something you want to pursue or if you're more comfortable with some fossil fuel chugging you around the water.

To ensure we have full groups, please ensure you are able to make it (barring unforeseen circumstances). We would appreciate cancellation notice so that we can contact those on the waiting list with enough notice to enable them to join us.

What you need:

Please note, we are asking that all participants be over the age of 16 for the on-the-water portions of the day but all ages are welcome to come learn more about sailing and our club. If you find that you would like to get the rest of the family on the water please come out, get your feet wet and then consider membership with the club. Our memberships are all family memberships and extend to your immediate family.

We will be giving the on-the-water component on Hobie Waves which offer a semi-dry ride but be prepared to get a little bit wet. Okay - maybe a bit wetter than that. Bring a change of clothes...better to go home happy and dry than happy and soggy.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Feel free to pack a light lunch if you wish. A waiver will need to be signed before the session begins.

No previous experience is neccessary. You should be comfortable on the water – at the very least comfortable floating in a life jacket until help can get to you - although as a general rule we try to stay ON the boats. This event is weather permitting (of course). Registrants will be kept informed of any changes or cancellation.

Ready to come on board? Space is limited to ensure everyone gets a good opportunity to get on the water but fills up fast each year.
